This is what I’m up to today.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and moms-to-be out there!
I’d post a video but WordPress is apparently trying to break up with me at the moment. Anyhoodle, have a great day!

Update:  WordPress and I have worked out our problems and have decided to give our romance another chance.  Here’s a gleetastic video that has no relation to Mother’s Day aside from the fact that it’s my blog and I say so.  Enjoy.

Best. Story. Evah.

Thanks everyone who commented on my last post. I am so relieved to know I’m not the only person who gets a little obsessed with the update!

Today is my 10 month waitaversary. 8 months to go!  Normally I feel mixed emotions on my waitaversary: excited that I’ve crossed another month off the calendar but also daunted by the length of the wait still ahead. But this time, you know…8 months doesn’t seem that bad. It feels pretty doable, like I might actually get through this thing with my sanity intact. For the first time, I feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and that I might actually become a mom after all!

On that high note, I made my first baby-related purchases today! I’ve been holding off on buying anything, since I don’t know what the gender or the age of my child will be. 0-18 months is a pretty big age range when you think in terms of required supplies – will I need a crib or a toddler bed, bottles or sippy cups, etc? Not to mention that gender neutral items are really tough to find unless you happen to be shopping for a newborn. I’ll admit that I’ve also been feeling a little superstitious: I didn’t want to jump the gun and outfit a nursery only to have the whole adoption fall apart somehow. It’s a long process and IA is anything but predictable – it’s pretty scary sometimes to think about everything that could go wrong.  Even my 8 months to referral timeframe is just an estimate – anything can happen between now and the time I get “the call.”

So, why did I break the baby-supply-purchasing embargo now?

  1. I feel like I’m getting really close. 8 months? Bah, that’s nothing!
  2. My agency has not one, but two back up countries that I’m eligible to adopt from, should a country change become necessary. So, I feel more secure.
  3. I couldn’t pass up these bargains:
    • The carseat I ‘ve had my eye on was on mega-sale at Tar-zhay. In a cute gender-neutral print, too! (Not the cow print, sadly – that was too much to hope for, I suppose!)
    • I found a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair on craigslist today for $50! Do you know how much these things go for new? These chairs are the best, especially when you need something that will work for an infant or a toddler!  Seriously, it would have been irresponsible of me not to buy it.

Now all I need are an Ergo/Beco carrier in a neutral color and a kick-booty jogging stroller and I’ll be in business! [Everything else has to wait until I have a referral.] I’d better get cracking, I only have 8 months to go!

P.S.  Mom, you should really bookmark this post :)!
